TechNurses Africa Student Nurses Innovation Challenge Official Rules
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.
1. SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES:
Entry into the TechNurses Africa Student Nurses Innovation Challenge (the “Challenge”) starts at 12:00 pm (GMT+1) on October 15, 2024 and ends at 00:00 am (GMT+1) on October 31, 2024 (the “Entry Period”).
The Grand Finale Event begins on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, and ends once the live pitch presentations and announcements have been completed (the “Challenge Period”).
2. ELIGIBILITY:
Open only to individual entrants who meet the following criteria (defined as “Entrants”):
- Must be a student nurse or midwife currently enrolled in a recognized nursing school or institution in Africa.
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Must be acting alone in creating/performing the entry (no group submissions allowed).
- Must not have any affiliation with any competing organizations or healthcare innovation companies before or during the Challenge Period.
- Employees of TechNurses Africa, SONSIEL, and all other related parties associated with this Challenge (collectively, “Sponsor and Promotion Parties”), their immediate family members (defined as parents, spouses, siblings, and children), and persons living within the same household as such employees (whether related or not) are not eligible to participate or win a prize.
Only one entry per candidate is allowed. All double entries will be disqualified. The Challenge is subject to all other applicable local laws.
3. HOW TO REGISTER:
To participate, complete the online entry form with the required information. The information must remain valid throughout the Challenge Period, or the Entrant may be disqualified.
- Entrants are required to submit a 1-minute video pitch (details below) explaining their innovation idea.
- The social media accounts entered must remain public throughout the Challenge Period.
- Entrants must promote their entry on Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn using the official hashtags:
- #TechNursesAfricaChallenge
- #SonsielInnovateNursing
- #TechNursesAfrica
- #SonsielNurse
4. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Entries must meet the following criteria, as determined by the Sponsor, or they may be disqualified:
- Must be in English Language (Any other entry language must be translated to English).
- Must not contain obscene, offensive, or inappropriate content.
- Must not defame or invade the privacy of any individual, or infringe on any proprietary rights.
- Must be the original work of the Entrant.
- Must include an innovation idea related to nursing, healthcare, and digital technology.
Sponsor, at its sole discretion, may disqualify any Entry that does not meet the requirements.
5. MISCELLANEOUS ENTRY INFORMATION:
Automated entries or entries submitted by individuals using scripts or robotic methods will be disqualified. Entries containing content flagged for copyright infringement will also be disqualified.
By participating, Entrants agree to these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor/Judges, which are final and binding.
6. JUDGING:
The Challenge consists of 2 phases of judging:
- Phase 1 Judging: The TechNurses Africa committee will review entries for eligibility. Only the best 10 entries will be selected based on the criteria (innovation, engagement metrics, etc.) and passed on to the next phase.
- Phase 2 Judging: A panel of judges will review the selected entries before the pitch event and only the best 5 will be selected to make a final pitch during the live event. Judges will provide feedback and scores based on innovation, feasibility, and presentation skills. The top 3 finalists will be selected as winners.
7. PRIZES:
A Grand Prize Winner will go home with the total sum of $150.
Top 3 finalists will also receive:
- Free Global Mentorship from nursing leaders through SONSIEL and TechNurses Africa.
- VIP Membership Access to SONSIEL and TechNurses Africa platforms.
- A Customized Plaque recognizing their efforts and achievements.
- All 10 finalists will receive Digital Certificates for their participation.
8. SELECTED PARTICIPANTS’ NOTIFICATION:
Top 10 finalists will be notified via email by November 1, 2024. The top 5 finalists must confirm their availability to participate in the live pitch event or risk forfeiting their spot to the next person on the finalist list.
9. GENERAL RULES:
- Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be substituted or redeemed for cash. Any taxes on prizes are the sole responsibility of the winner.
- TechNurses Africa reserves the right to modify or terminate the Challenge at any time for reasons outside of its control.
- Entrants retain full ownership of the intellectual property in their entry, but by participating, they grant TechNurses Africa and its partners a perpetual, worldwide license to use their entry for promotional purposes.
10. CONDUCT:
Entrants agree to abide by the Official Rules and the decisions of TechNurses Africa and SONSIEL, which are final. TechNurses Africa reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant found tampering with the process or behaving unsportsmanlike or disruptive.
11. PARTICIPANT RELEASES:
By entering, Entrants agree to release TechNurses Africa and related parties from any liability resulting from participation in the Challenge or the acceptance of any prize.

2. Submission Guidelines (How the pitch should be submitted)
- Video Format:
Entrants are required to submit a 1-minute video pitch that meets the following guidelines:- Introduction: Name, course, year of study, and country of residence (10 seconds).
- Talents and Skills: Briefly describe your digital skills, talents, and exceptional abilities (15 seconds).
- Innovation Pitch: Describe the problem, the negative impact of the problem, and your solution (30 seconds).
- Call to Action: State why the judges should shortlist your pitch (5 seconds).
- Video Requirements:
- Language: Must be in English. Any other recognized language must be transcribed/translated to English.
- Quality: Ensure good video and sound quality (clear audio, stable visuals).
- Background: Ensure a clean, neutral background to avoid distractions.
- Hashtags: The official hashtags must be used when posting your video on social media:

- #TechNursesAfrica
- #SonsielNurse
- Tagging: Tag relevant parties, including your school, classmates, and mentors, to increase visibility.
- Social Media: Post your pitch video on Instagram and/or TikTok, and LinkedIn. Ensure your account remains public throughout the Challenge Period.
- Submission Deadline: All video submissions must be uploaded and linked by 12 Midnight of Thursday October 31, 2024.
- Content Ownership:
Entrants retain ownership of the intellectual property in their entry, but by participating, they grant TechNurses Africa and its partners a perpetual, worldwide license to use their entry for promotional purposes. - Disqualification:
Entries may be disqualified if they:- Fail to meet the video quality or content requirements.
- Include offensive, inappropriate, or obscene content.
- Defame or invade the privacy of others, or infringe on proprietary rights.
- Use automated methods for submission.
- Fail to use the official hashtags or keep their accounts public during the Challenge Period.
3. Rules Guiding the Innovation Challenge
- General Rules:
- By participating, Entrants agree to abide by the Official Rules and the decisions of TechNurses Africa, which are final and binding.
- TechNurses Africa reserves the right to modify or terminate the Challenge at any time for reasons outside of its control.
- Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be substituted or redeemed for cash. TechNurses Africa reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value in case the specified prize is unavailable.
- Entrants are responsible for any taxes applicable to the prizes won.
- Judging:
